Carefree Short Breaks For Carers
Carers Bucks has become a Community Partner with Carefree, a charity “transforming vacant accommodation into breaks for unpaid carers”. As a Community Partner, we are able to refer carers registered with Carers Bucks for a short break through the scheme. We have put together some eligibility information that we hope you find helpful.
How do I apply for a short break?
Carers Bucks can refer you to Carefree for a short break. You will need to agree to your name, email address and date of birth being shared with Carefree. If you would like us to refer you, please fill in our short application form and we will do so. Once referred, all future communication about the break will be between you and Carefree.
What happens once I have been referred to Carefree?
Carefree will contact you by email with information on how to book your break. Please be advised that breaks are subject to availability, and we would suggest being as flexible as possible. Hotels have five days to accept or reject the booking, so we recommend not arranging any transport or replacement care until your booking has been confirmed.
How old do I need to be?
Carers aged 18 and above can be referred for a short break.
How much does it cost?
There is no charge for the hotel room. However, you need to be able to cover the cost of extras, such as transport, insurance and a £33 admin fee which covers Carefree’s operating costs.
Can all carers apply?
You must be caring for 30 hours a week or more.
Can I book a break over the phone or by post?
All breaks are booked via the Carefree website. There is no option to book over the phone or by post.
Can I take someone with me?
Yes, but that cannot be the person you care for.
There is more than one carer in our house – can we both apply?
Yes, every carer in a household can enjoy a break each year.
Please note – As there is a criteria for eligibility, we are aware that the scheme will not be suitable for all carers. All breaks are subject to availability. Only requests made via the application form will be referred to Carefree.
