Name: Beth Sawyers
Role: Fundraiser
How did you come to be a part of the team?
Back in 2015, I was working as a makeup artist in a well-known department store. One day after work my friend decided to take on a challenge and climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Young Carers Bucks. She decided to put on a ball to raise funds and my friends and I were all very excited about it so we all bought our tickets to support her fundraising efforts! However, on the evening of the ball my friend got immense stage fright and asked me to compère the whole evening. Being the supportive friend I am, I got up on stage and winged the whole evening, presenting the raffle, announcing the silent auction and talking to all the guests. We managed to raise over £3,000! I enjoyed supporting a local cause so much that on the next Monday I applied for the Fundraising vacancy and have never looked back!
How would you describe what it’s like to work here?
I have always enjoyed working here. Everyone is so welcoming and I have always felt very well looked after. If I had to use one word for I felt working here, it would be “valued”.
What do you love about your job role?
I love that I get to go out into the community and meet lots of different people.
Share a highlight or something you are proud of in your role?
There have been many highlights in the nine years I have been here. Something I am proud of is that we recently got to do a pitch to Peter Jones at the Angels Den. It was a nerve-wracking but exciting event!
What one word would you use to describe the organisation and why?
Friendly – I use this word because it doesn’t feel like you’re at work everyday. Everyone is so welcoming and caring.
What’s a valuable lesson you’ve learned in your career?
Keep trying – when something doesn’t work or times get tough, keep going.
How do you work to improve your work-life balance?
I have a daily routine where I keep structure. It’s important to know when to switch off too.
What’s the most interesting talent or interest you have that most people don’t know about?
I love to sing!

Are you caring for someone?
Do you look after someone who cannot manage without you because they are ill, frail or have a disability?
If so, you are a carer and Carers Bucks can help you.
