A group of intrepid Young Carers, along with Laura and Ray from the Carers Bucks team, joined the Tall Ships Youth Trust for 5 days of adventure, learning, and fun on the high seas!

Formed in 1956, Tall Ships is the UK’s oldest and largest youth development and outdoor learning charity. They sail all year round, empowering young people aged 12–25 to increase their life-chances on transformational voyages.

Here’s what our Young Carers thought about their trip…

I found the experience challenging but fun, eye opening and I also learned lots. I did many activities such as learning knots, climbing a pole above the ocean, playing on the beach and making loads of new friends as well. It gave me a different view and made me think differently about things. It was hard experience but I would definitely do it again. If you get the chance do it, you won't regret it! - Isobelle, aged 14
I have learnt a lot from my Challenger 2 sailing experience. I have enjoyed this voyage so much that I am planning my next trip and what I’m going to do when I’m old enough to be a watch assistant. I now know how to winch, sweat and tie loads of knots. My favourite part of the voyage was either sweating to put up the yankee sail or the tacks whilst we were properly sailing. The most tiring part was the tacks or when I spent 45mins to 1 hour in the snake pit sorting out the ropes and the sail. The snake pit is where all of the ropes go to and it is behind the mast and infront of the main cockpit. Tack is where when you sail, you change the side which is the low side. Sweating is when you are pulling a rope on the mast to help hoist the sail. - Josiah
