Carers Support

Carer’s assessments

If you are over 18 years old and providing regular care for an adult who is over 18 years old, you are entitled to have an assessment of your own needs by the local authority. You will be entitled to an assessment regardless of the amount or type of care you provide, your financial means or your level of need for support.

For more information, see Carer’s Assessments.

Your rights as a carer

As a carer, you have specific legal rights and entitlements. Knowing your rights can help you to get the support that you need. These rights include:

  • The right to have your needs assessed by your local authority.
  • The right not to be discriminated against
  • Rights if you are in employment.
