We took a group of young carers to a Milly Day. Our 16-year-old young carers would soon be moving up to the young adult carers service, so this was a transition day.

If you haven’t experienced a Milly Day you walk in to the most beautiful grounds where the garden meets the River Thames. There is a gorgeous boat waiting to take you out on the water, but first, you walk past the inviting pool and a small football pitch with goals, a marquee, and further on is an animal area where you can feed and pet donkeys, chicks, lambs, goats, and a turkey. Eddie the goat was very handsome!

We heard the word “wow” used a lot!

In the pool area, there was music, relaxing on inflatables, ball games, a slide, a hot tub, water gun fights and racing. There were many sun loungers where we could dry off after a swim and just relax. The lifeguards were amazing and joined in with the fun.

An ice cream van drove in playing disco music, and our young people could choose an ice cream treat. Then, we all had strawberries and cream and were given Milly Day goodie bags as we left.

The whole day felt as though our young people were relaxing and having fun and getting some well- deserved respite from their caring responsibilities. We received some amazing feedback about the day. Including “you have made a difference” and “thank you for giving her this opportunity to have some ‘time out’

Thank you to Emma, Gina and all the Milly Day Team. You are all wonderful. Thank you.
